Networking

Devices live on a private, wired Ethernet show LAN, isolated from venue IT. They are addressed by role and identity, heartbeat continuously to the Core, and are updated over the air. Lighting is carried as sACN to the DMX Node, which gateways to standard DMX-512. Keeping the show network private keeps it deterministic — no competing traffic, no external dependency for the show to run.

The fault model

Every device reports a health signal. The Runtime declares a device faulted after it misses several heartbeats or fails to acknowledge commands, and the device's fault output then becomes available in your show logic — so you can ring an alarm, light a status, or run a fallback. Safety-critical devices default to halting; experience devices default to degrading gracefully. This split is deliberate: it keeps people safe while avoiding needless show stoppages for cosmetic failures.

Build & longevity

Simple nodes are built on a proven microcontroller-plus-wired-Ethernet design (ESP32 with W5500 Ethernet); media and brain devices use Linux-class compute (the Video Node on Raspberry Pi 5-class hardware). Enclosures are IP65. The whole system is designed for a multi-year service life with field-replaceable, field-updatable units and components selected for long-term availability.

Standards & compliance

Devices are designed toward the relevant regimes for their market and role: FCC and CE for all devices, UL safety listing for the mains-powered Core and Relay, IP65 ingress protection, and RoHS/REACH material compliance. Certification status by device is published as it is achieved — we state what is certified, not what is hoped for.

What we'll confirm before launch

In the spirit of not overpromising: channel counts, electrical ratings, latency figures and codec support shown across the site are design targets until validated by final engineering and test. The published site will carry confirmed numbers.
